Lightning storm hits a small town. Power lines sizzle and arc. Trace a path back to State Street connecting the black char marks. Can't reset your modem. The paperclip won't fit in the hole. Power cycle won't do a thing. The network's down and you ain't paid up your phone. Your friends tried calling in the National Guard, but they ain't never heard of you. Don't bother asking if they know who you are. Don't bother asking if they'll send help soon. The waves are crashing in, you'd better move quickly if you don't want to drown. Treading water waist deep. If you want to live, you'd better get the hell out of town. No burritos, no Western, no Fairhaven. Atlantis comes to downtown. Catching waves on dead bodies, surf's up! It's a Bellingham media blackout. They paved I-5 over a fault line. The ground cracks and Bellis Fair falls inside. Cop cars overturned in lettered streets. Smoke hangs in the air for miles. It's raining frogs at your editor's house. Dude, that's not cool. Martial law, riots in the streets. Bayonets, jungle rules.
